Abstract
Acidic intaglio printmaking represents one of the most technically sophisticated
and historically significant methods in the field of graphic arts. This research paper
examines the techniques, materials, equipment, and expressive innovations associated
with acidic intaglio printmaking processes. The study explores traditional and
contemporary etching practices including hardground, softground, aquatint, sugar
lift, marbling, spit bite, and photo etching. Special attention is given to the role of
acids and mordants in plate preparation and image creation, along with the significance
of etching presses, ink preparation, and paper treatment in achieving successful prints.
The paper also discusses the aesthetic and experimental potential of viscosity printing,
blind embossing, and collage techniques. Through an analytical and technical approach,
this research highlights how acidic intaglio printmaking continues to evolve as both a
traditional craft and an innovative contemporary art practice.
