Abstract
In this study, the deep effect of the Book of Genesis and Christian themes on English writing throughout the 17th century is investigated. Particular attention is paid to the works of authors such as John Milton, George Herbert, and John Bunyan (among others). This article analyzes how these writers utilized the Genesis story of creation, fall, and redemption to engage with theological discussions, human nature, and divine justice at a time of political and religious turmoil. This is accomplished via a study of important texts. The study focuses on the ways in which scripture functioned not just as a moral and spiritual framework, but also as a literary basis that impacted the intellectual and cultural discourse of the day.
